Narrabri to Leyburn 4 h 10 min (396.7 km)

In the morning, the storm now passed, the fields become on fire with the touch of first light as LR and I dodge semi in search of a good shot.
But it wasn’t the scenery that stoped our wagon in its tracks, but rows upon rows of nose to but caterpillars traveling the expanse of tarmac.
Sitting, watching and waiting for tiny creators to make their way past is somewhat relaxing and spurred our  detour to the

Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre.

The slight stinging sensation is replaced with a jello feeling as the body gives way to the 40C. Thoughts of a Sicilian getaway flood in as I surveyed the bath edges, lined with tanned hairy backs and gold chains. Laughing and conversing in their native tongue, a vision of total relaxation.

The rough ocean motion of the road has somewhat less impact as a feeling of numbness still lingers, as though I have no bones. The road leads us passed Sunflower fields and more fiery flowering fields of sorghum. Taking the back roads again for the last stretch, we take a rest stop by great sandy beaches with twisted gumtrees (Bengalla Reserve )

Ahead of schedule we land at Leyburn in with plenty of time to explore. The free camp spot is a vast grassy expanse close to town. From the oldest Hotel in Queensland to beautiful churches and historic homes, there is plenty to see in this little town. It is also the home of the annual Historic Leyburn Sprints. The weekend of August 15th & 16th 2015 will see the showcase of one of the most significant motoring events in Queensland and one of the State’s biggest regional events staged, when the 20th annual Historic Leyburn Sprints takes place.
