 DAY FOUR DUBBO TO WARRUMBUMGLE National Park (141km 2.5hr)

The skeleton of past glory is slowly disappearing as new growth climbs higher. Now only the blackened fingertips stand above the forest walls, yet the fires destruction is still strongly evident. This limited cover also gives us views of the rocky faces as not seen in a long time, but beside all that, still a spectacular area to visit http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/warrumbungle-national-park .

We did the only short walk the Burbie Canyon , and though the creek that we followed was dry it just gave another dimension toe the trail as we walked the creek bed on the way back. LR became an unexpected Kangaroo whispera, leading us through the bush like a Bindi wannabe. Hand signals motioned us to stop, (for no real apparent reason except playing a dramatic part I might add) glancing left her eyes nearly fell out of her head, as two Kangas sheltered in the creekbed not far away. On the way back we explored the rocky overhangs of the creek bed finding heaps of evidence of shelter use, including a somewhat larger kangaroo.

Two unusual things stand out while touring through the Warrumbungle’s, the freaky ass fabulous mailboxes and the amount of Observatory fanatics. I don’t know if the skies are clearer here or what, but if you like gazing at the stars apparently this is the place to be as I think we passed 5 Observatories in this stretch.

Strange aqua blue and lightning to the left, while dark gray blue flanks us and on the right. We drive almost as with our tail between our legs through its rapidly darkening belly. The temperature drops from 30C to 21C…..and now 17C as the sky opens. Glancing to the left a small pocket of blue still lingers, almost laughing with its presence.

At least our windscrean is now clean and, the tortured bodies from the mass grasshopper encounter earlyer (that LR tried to free at our last stop) have washed away.

Follow the brown Tourist Drive 1 north through Tooraweena
Continue for 26km to the T-intersection at Gummin Gummin homestead?
Turn right onto John Renshaw Parkway?(R Tooraweenah Rd?)
