Macrossan park to Paronella park (367km 4.13hr)
Back on the road, the scenery had turned from dry scrub to green. P.s there were only three freight trains last night, quite the experience.
A golden understory of Honey Gem Grevillea’s set against ripple-like slender trunks and flanked by elegant dark-barked Gums. Scattered dragon ferns and richly overhung creeks, temp jumps to 27 ahhhh getting closer.
2. FLOWERING SUGAR CANE
With every creek crossing, I find my head lurching back for the chance glance of a croc lol. Mango’s, pineapples, flowering sugar cane line the Hwy. Like fields of feather dusters, the cane is accentuated by prominent green mountain peaks.
We arrived at our first main destination straining on the edge of our seats for a better view, was it going to live up to the vision we remembered from the TV some years ago?
Paronella park (http://www.paronellapark.com.au/) was wall to wall green moss, ferns and lush rainforest, but it was the beautiful waterfall that was the showstopper for me. Viewed from through the castle-like moss-covered structures it had a great presence. By day I felt the castles were lacking something, being concrete construction, as beautiful as they were there was always this feeling of fakeness.
3. CASTLES BY NIGHT
However, under lit by night the place became a whole other world, adding that touch of magic.
4. HISTORIC HYDROELICTRIC TOUR
LR had the opportunity to see the hydroelectric system in action with an up-and-close tour of the pump house and reconditioned system. The brilliance of this system meant that Paronella park was the first to have electricity in the area and be fully self-sufficient, a great feat for 1933.
5. TOWERING BAMBOO
And Gamer B, well this was the best place ever. Even after frantically sorting the free Wifi out by himself the extensive labyrinth of pathways through the Rainforest and towering Bamboo was a playground from heaven….best 3D game ever lol.
Note: Parking is a serious challenge if you have a big caravan…unless you are absurdly capable like my H that is. how he easily maneuvers into the most ridiculous spots amazes me every time.
